North Greenwich's Ollie Shearing is the 2024 National Under 18 Singles Champion.
The Annual Under 18's Singles Tournament was once again played at Oxford City and County Bowls Club over the weekend of the 11th and 12th May.
64 Under 18's from across the Country gathered to compete for the title and a place at the British Isles Championships in June which this year will be held at Leamington Spa.
Saturday saw all the players compete in groups to try and get seeded high enough to play in the main knockout event on the Sunday. Each player was guaranteed 3 games, with each game being played over 2 x 5 end sets with a 1 end tie break if required
Ollie was in Section 1 and he was in imperious form winning his 3 games as follows:-
Match 1 v Charlie Thurston (Whaplode Drove, Lincolnshire) 2-0 (14-0, 13-0)
Match 2 v Noah Pearce Jones (Carterton, Oxford) 2-0 (8-1, 10-3)
Match 3 v Louie Hodges (Cheltenham, Gloucestershire) 2-0 (5-2,7-2)
3 wins meant Ollie was guaranteed a good seeding for Sunday's main event but the margins of his wins meant he finished section 1 ranked number 1. At the end of Saturday, with Sections 2 and 3 complete Ollie remained ranked number 1, a fantastic achievement. In total 8 players finished day 1 with 100% records.
Day 2 was a straight knockout but the 2 sets would be of 7 ends and there would be a 3 end tie break if required. This is how Ollie Progressed and details of his opponents
Last 32 v Thomas Mills (Rugby, Warwickshire - Member of the Performance squad - day 1 ranking 28)
Ollie won 2-0 (8-2-6-5)
Last 16 v Kacee Sultman (Forest Hall, Northumberland - Member of the performance squad - day 1 ranking 17)
